Emergency Preparedness and Evacuation
Know your evacuation zone, make a household plan, sign up for alerts and join CERT.
Department: Emergency Management
Preparedness is a shared responsibility. During a wildfire, the Police Department’s primary mission is to protect life by evacuating people from the affected areas. A City evacuation time study estimated an average of 4 hours and 20 minutes to evacuate all of Laguna Beach, so leave early when told.
Know your zone
The City updated its evacuation maps with clearer zone names and numbering, corrected street names and better landmarks. The number and boundaries of the zones did not change. Look up your zone before an emergency.
Make a plan
The Emergency Preparedness Guide has checklists and ideas for a household emergency plan. Phones and the internet may be overloaded during an evacuation, so plan more than one route out in case one is blocked.
